Heart

black and white image of woman looking down into a mirror for the Heart post

When I meditate on something, I store the images, sounds, experiences, etc. in my heart. My heart doesn’t get a choice; it simply follows where I set my affections. God’s word tells us, “But what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart.”(Matt 15:18).  As a result, the return I receive for investing my time and attention will be revealed when I open my mouth and speak.

Proverbs 18:21 tells us that the tongue has the power of life and death. Since that is true, let me speak something beautiful over you today, sweet woman.

Father, how I thank You for Your presence in every millisecond of every second of every breath I take. Thank You that I am allowed to approach Your throne room. Your angels don’t ask to see my credentials because You have already spoken for me. Because they see the mark of the Holy Spirit on me, they pull open the doors without hesitation, so I can enter in.

You are already coming toward me; I can feel Your love and compassion for me. You embrace me and kiss my cheek. You sing the most beautiful song over me and invite me to dance with You.

How exquisite is Your love for me. Daddy, let my eyes and my mind meditate on Your beauty so that my heart will be set on You all the days of my life for it is the most excellent place to wrap myself in. In Your presence I find the birthplace of love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, kindness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

Father, Your Word says that a good woman brings good treasures out of the good stored up in her heart, and an evil woman brings evil treasures out of the evil stored up in her heart. Father, I thank You that, when I open my mouth and speak, the meditation of my heart will be acceptable in Your sight.

Father God, You are worthy of every good gesture, word, deed, and discipline I could offer as sacrificial worship to You and yet, when I choose to look or act upon whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, or admirable and praiseworthy, You turn the benefit and reward toward me.

You call me into the more excellent way, and You extravagantly pour out Your presence on me. Daddy, cause my heart to be satisfied only by You and Your love.

Stir in me a desire to know You deeper, spend time with You, and to connect with Your heart by reading Your Word. Nothing and no one else will do, my Rock and my Redeemer.

Amen

Self-Reflection

These questions are in no way a substitute for healthcare professionals or any level of professional counseling. I’m an advocate for taking care of oneself mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. These questions reflect my heart, NOT my profession.

This questionnaire is an opportunity to journal your thoughts and feelings. It can serve as a launching pad on which to evaluate your heart condition as you understand it. My hope is that you will take the truths you discover about yourself and hold them up to the Light to evaluate them against who God says you are.

  • Name three things you spend time focusing on.
  • How do these things affect the way you speak to others or think about yourself?
  • Do you ever find yourself talking a certain way or thinking a certain way after watching/listening to a movie or a podcast? (i.e. playing images over and over or using language you heard)
  • What is one thing you wish you’d stop saying?
  • Why do you keep repeating the same pattern?
  • Is there a lie (as compared to who God is) you need to confront?
  • What is something kind that you say to yourself or allow yourself to indulge in?
  • With regard to this good thing, why are you kind to yourself in this way?
  • In your opinion, what is something that is true, lovely, or praiseworthy?

Talk to God about your answers. Give Him praise, ask Him questions and then listen for His gentle response.

Take Action

Use God’s word to take control over the traumas in your life.  Whenever you feel terrorized by your thoughts take them captive by replacing them with the truth of God’s promises in His word.

Here is a scripture for you to print, cut and carry with you and/or post in places where you will see it often. Ground yourself in God’s truths not Satan’s attacks. Encourage your heart and mind every time you are reminded of His great love for YOU!

Here is what God’s Word says about His unfailing, relentless, unending love for you:

“Let the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.” Psalm 19:14 (ESV)

Translation: God has constant knowledge of us. He knows our words before we speak, and He knows our heart condition toward Him. There’s no sense in trying to hide how we feel about Him or anything else. It is to our benefit that we keep our focus on the things that draw us closer to His heart and reveal the beauty of who He is in every circumstance.
