Podcast Episode – Shelley Darabos, Cancer
Moments that flip your world upside down and scramble everything that is familiar to you have a way of brining this particular truth into clear focus. Control is simply an illusion. There’s no better reality check than the horrifying word cancer.
My guest, Shelley Darabos and her husband Marcello, whom she affectionally calls Marce, received a cancer diagnosis that immediately put a 4 month treatment plan into action. They were told that at the end of those 4 months it was very clear cut. He would either leave a cured man or a dead man.
Money may afford you options or delay the inevitable but time is not on your side and your most beloved family and friends have no power to change your condition. Hands are tied, time is ticking and control is no where to be found.
Shelley describes herself as a control freak but there came a point that she surrendered her control of trying her best to strategize and figure out what she needed to do in order to save her husband. As proof that God meets us where we are she’ll now tell you that if you’re looking for God, He’s in the bathroom at Norfolk Naval Hospital.
When you’re at the mercy of technology breakthroughs, doctors who are practicing medicine and you can’t stop the clock, you definitely need the One who is in control over every aspect of life, who is not offended by pain and who holds healing in His hands.
