Love in Pieces

I’m so excited! It’s a self-care day! Silence any interruptions, posture (soften/humble) your heart to receive, and give your focus to love. I’m going to be brief and to the point because I want you to spend the majority of your time in relaxed meditation on who God is and how much He loves you. This 11 minute investment has the potential for an 11 hour payoff!

Many of you may be familiar with the song Pieces by Amanda Cook of Bethel Music. It is the perfect song to soak in whenever we need to be loved on and reminded of the perfection with which God loves us.

Warning: We cannot hold anyone else up to the standard of love that God demonstrates for us until we personally have achieved it ourselves. I know, unrealistic, right? But nevertheless, God does not give His love in pieces. He’ll never withhold His affection from us no matter what. Therefore, let us enjoy His presence, allowing Him to fill us up to the point of overflow, and may He spill over onto those around us.

Transition from doing to being. Invite God into your space and simply be with Him.

Here are the lyrics filled with simple yet powerful words so you can visually absorb the love note embedded in the song. After reading the words, please click on the YouTube link. You can choose the one that corresponds with the lyrics I have provided or you can listen to the spontaneous version that has a deeper expression. Don’t get snagged by any commercials—click through!

As the song begins, I encourage you to take a deep breath, relax your whole frame, and put your focus on His song of affection to you. Relax into the love story God is writing with you.

There’s no space here for negative thoughts; simply enjoy His presence. If your mind wanders, bring it back. If you get interrupted, pick up where you left off. Listen to it as many times and as often as desired. My only request is that you not cheat yourself out of this experience with the purest love you’ll ever know.

Unreserved, unrestrained
Your love is wild
Your love is wild for me
It isn’t shy, it’s unashamed
Your love is proud
To be seen with me

‘Cause You don’t give Your heart in pieces
You don’t hide Yourself to tease us

Uncontrolled, Uncontained
Your love is a fire
Burning bright for me
It’s not just a spark
It’s not just a flame
Your love is a light
That all the world will see
All the world will see

That You don’t give Your heart in pieces
You don’t hide Yourself to tease us, no
You don’t give Your heart in pieces, no
You don’t hide Yourself to tease us

Your love’s not fractured
It’s not a troubled mind
It isn’t anxious
It’s not the restless kind
Your love’s not passive
It’s never disengaged
It’s always present
It hangs on every word we say
Love keeps its promises
It keeps its word
It honors what’s sacred
‘Cause its vows are good
Your love’s not broken
It’s not insecure
Your love’s not selfish
Your love is pure

You don’t give Your heart in pieces
You don’t hide Yourself to tease us
You don’t give Your heart in pieces
You don’t hide Yourself to tease us

You don’t give Your heart in pieces

Self-Reflection

These questions are in no way a substitute for healthcare professionals or any level of professional counseling. I’m an advocate for taking care of oneself mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. These questions reflect my heart, NOT my profession.

This questionnaire is an opportunity to journal your thoughts and feelings. It can serve as a launching pad on which to evaluate your heart condition as you understand it. My hope is that you will take the truths you discover about yourself and hold them up to the Light to evaluate them against who God says you are.

  • Write out some of the words (in the song) that resonated with your heart.
  • Why do you think they resonated with you so deeply?
  • How does a person give their heart in pieces?
  • In what ways do you think God has a wild love for you?
  • When you think about the qualities of God’s love, what is your response to Him?

Talk to God about your answers. Give Him praise, ask Him questions and then listen for His gentle response.

Take Action

Use God’s word to take control over the traumas in your life.  Whenever you feel terrorized by your thoughts take them captive by replacing them with the truth of God’s promises in His word.

Here is a scripture for you to print, cut and carry with you and/or post in places where you will see it often. Ground yourself in God’s truths not Satan’s attacks. Encourage your heart and mind every time you are reminded of His great love for YOU!

Here is what God’s Word says about His unfailing, relentless, unending love for you:

Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.” Psalm 62:5-6 (NIV)

TRANSLATION: I can stop putting my faith in other people to define love for me. God is the One and only who fully knows me and completely loves me. He gives me rest, hope, protection, and solid footing to stand on. In all that He gives me, I have no reason to worry or feel anxiety. In Him I will not be shaken.
