“You show that you are a letter from Christ, cared for by us, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.” 2 Corinthians 3:3 (NASB)
Consciously or unconsciously, our choice of external packaging is our first hello. The world around us will make certain observations and assumptions based on the way we choose to package and present ourselves. It is the message we convey even if we never exchange a word. Admittedly, the “book cover” does not always match the story on the inside, nevertheless, it’s how we all first meet.
When given the opportunity to see if the internal story reads true to its cover, it is in the verbal exchange that we begin to hear the unique sound of an individual. Much like hearing music and being able to identify certain bands or the vocals of a specific singer, you can also identify the tune of individual hearts.
Always complaining? Lighthearted or has the need to be funny all the time? Prefers offensive language to communicate? Strives only to encourage and motivate? Feeds on the opportunity to shame or embarrass people? Always has a kind word? Manipulators who say one thing and do another?
Our verbal interaction reveals what our hearts believe is true about who we are. What has been written on our hearts is what we will use to write on the hearts of others.
Do you need something new written on your heart today? Tired of everyone writing things on your heart that wear you down or leave you burned out? Christ has the power AND the authority to rewrite the remaining chapters of your life. He has a dream for you, and He’s ready to have you walk it out and experience Him as the loving Father He is.
To Christ, you are dearly loved, spoken for, and cherished. You are the ransomed one, paid for with every drop of His blood on Calvary. He wants to put the love story He has for you deep in your heart where you can hold it close.
What He desires to write upon your heart is His love letter to you. He can bind up wounds, heal scars, and make all things new. He can redeem pain and suffering. He desires to write His love upon your heart so that when you go out into your day everyone you meet will immediately know you are deeply loved.

These questions are in no way a substitute for healthcare professionals or any level of professional counseling. I’m an advocate for taking care of oneself mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually, that is my heart, NOT my profession.
This questionnaire is an opportunity to journal your thoughts and feelings. It can serve as a launching pad on which to evaluate your heart condition, as you understand it. My hope is that you will take what you discover and hold it up to the Light to evaluate it against who God says you are.
- Who were the influential people that helped shape the way you look at life? (More than likely these are parents, older siblings, full-time caregivers, and teachers.)
- Use the name(s) you’ve listed and fill in the blank: Good or bad, what did _______ teach me?
- Based on what you’ve written above, what has been written on your heart?
- Do you think the style of communication you’ve experienced could use some maturing? If so, in what way could you mature?
- What are some resources you can use to mature your communication style? (i.e., the Bible, friend accountability, professional counseling, etc.)
Use God’s word to take control over traumas in your life. Whenever you feel terrorized by your thoughts, take them captive by replacing them with the truth of God’s promises found in His word.
