Confident

Confident

We haven’t worshiped together in a while. Prayer and worship are my favorite ways to spend time with the Lord. I especially love worship music because so much scripture is included in the lyrics. I learn and retain best through music, so worship music helps me  learn the word of God. The song I’m in love with lately is “Confident” by Steffany Gretzinger.

While I always say identity is everything, being confident is a close second. Where we put our confidence is key to not only fulfilling everything we were created to achieve but to finding great reward in the journey.

Confidence is also key to less stress, angst, and tears. Not that we don’t have questions or at times second guess what we heard the Lord say, but we can always rest in the fact that it’s not about us. The burden of our calling rests on the Lord. His righteousness covers us. His faithfulness is unfailing. His love is the solid rock for us to plant our hearts on.

We partner with Him to discover who He is, and in that exchange we get to experience His heart and explore all that He has for us. Revelation after revelation confirms that we were created for the beauty of relationship with Him.

In the moments I purposefully acknowledge that my life belongs to God and that He can do with me as He wishes, I get a quick pinch in my spirit. To offer myself to Him in that way makes me feel very vulnerable. But, at this stage in my life, where can I go? I have not found anyone else who holds the words of truth besides Him. I’ve had plenty of time to find him/her if they existed, and over the years I’ve looked high and low.

Are there any areas of your life that are built on sinking sand? Thoughts, actions, self-talk, relationships? Is it out of your control, having little to no influence? Does what you’ve been investing in feel like shifting ground?

Maybe you’re walking into this new year already confident. If so, what have you put your confidence in? Is it in someone who has the ability to go before you and provide things you will need before you even know to ask? Maybe something that is capable of turning any circumstance or situation for your benefit? Possibly someone who fears nothing and all things answer to him or her? If so, share with me this person who knows your every inner thought and motive of your heart and yet still loves you completely, unashamedly, unconditionally.

Confidence equates to faith. What do you have faith in? Who do you have faith in? Is it the One whose laughter scatters your enemies? Who gives you joy for your mourning? Does His grace and mercy allow you to lift your head under the weight of your choices? Does He give you rest because your righteousness is found in Him? Has He paid the debt of sin that your soul will be called to account for?

Who owns the borrowed breath you breathe? Does He have a strength that surpasses all of your efforts and resources? Does the seen and unseen, known and unknown answer to Him? Will every knee bow to Him and every tongue confess His name?

Find a quiet few minutes and listen to this song, “Confident.” I hope that a fresh revelation of His power and strength encourages your heart to be strongly rooted on the Rock that is never shaken, never threatened. The Rock that has no rival and no equal.

Self-Reflection

These questions are in no way a substitute for healthcare professionals or any level of professional counseling. I’m an advocate for taking care of oneself mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. These questions reflect my heart, NOT my profession.

This questionnaire is an opportunity to journal your thoughts and feelings. It can serve as a launching pad on which to evaluate your heart condition as you understand it. My hope is that you will take the truths you discover about yourself and hold them up to the Light to evaluate them against who God says you are.

  • What does it mean to put your confidence in something or someone?
  • Where have you put your confidence?
  • Are there any changes you need to make with regard to where you have put your confidence?
  • How are confidence and trust the same? Different?
  • What is your biggest challenge when it comes to trust?
  • Why do you think that is?

Take Action

Use God’s Word to take control over the traumas in your life.  Whenever you feel terrorized by your thoughts take them captive by replacing them with the truth of God’s promises in His Word.

Here is a scripture for you to print, cut and carry with you and/or post in places where you will see it often. Ground yourself in God’s truths not Satan’s attacks. Encourage your heart and mind every time you are reminded of His great love for YOU!

Here is what God’s Word says about His unfailing, relentless, unending love for you:

“Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Romans 5;1 (NIV)

Translation:

Believing that Christ died on the cross for your sins and professing with your mouth what your heart believes causes a spiritual shift. The Holy Spirit comes to dwell in you, infusing your soul with His presence, and you are now able to have an intimate, personal relationship with God. Because of your faith you are justified. What Christ did on the cross and your acceptance of that removes any barriers/sin with God, and you have direct access to Him.
